My Bad Day

Have you ever been through one of those automated car washes? Not just the kind you drive into and park, but the kind that grabs your tire and pulls you through slowly?

Have you ever decided to go through that particular type of car wash when it’s -30 degrees celsius outside?

It was December 2006, and I remember that morning perfectly. It was one of those mornings where I forgot to set my alarm, so I woke up late, then when I did wake up, I stubbed my toe. My drive-thru breakfast order was wrong, and it seemed like every driver on the road was determined to cut me off or slow me down.

I was going to work at the mall. If you live in Saskatchewan in the winter, you know that the best time to wash your car when you don’t have a garage, is a day when you can park underground at a mall all day. Just a quick wash and I’d be on my way.

Have you ever rolled down your window at one of these car washes and punched in your wash code?

Have you ever tried to roll your window back up only to discover that your window has fallen off the track?

Have you ever been dragged kicking and screaming through an active automatic car wash with your window down swatting at the water and spitting out bubbles?

As the final “air blower” step powerfully whipped the floating bubbles around the inside of my car and my hair into a tangled, sticky frenzy, I surrendered to the laughter. I couldn’t stop laughing. I laughed so hard it hurt. The kind of ridiculous laughter that makes the world right again.

Laughing I think is the most perfect action the human body performs. Sure it does other miraculous things, like grow babies and make people feel loved, but laughter... real genuine uncontrollable belly laughter...I’m pretty sure that’s the answer to world peace!

Happy Sunday, friends. I hope you laugh today!
